Our Story

EST 2011

We are a small family winery committed to preserving the beauty & heritage of Grindstone Island.

We have planted over 2,000 vines on our 3 ½ acre hillside winery, in the center of Grindstone Island. We grow Baco Noir, Prairie Star, Frontenac, Marquette & La Crescent.

Our wines are barrel-aged for 1-3 years in American and French oak barrels prior to being bottle aged for an additional 2-3 months.

We are committed to exceptional wine-making & focused on sustainable growing practices. We nurture healthy vines and grapes, conserve natural resources, and foster relationships with members of our River community.

Tasting room

We are a community center as much as we are a Winery. We love providing a space for islanders & visitors to gather.

We offer wine tasting, glasses & bottles of wine, local craft beer, refreshing N/A options, all paired with local cheese boards & other seasonal snacks.

Check our events page & our social media for updates on our live music schedule, wood fired pizza nights & other special events!

Grindstone Island

As the fourth largest island in the St. Lawrence River, Grindstone encapsulates both the natural beauty and rich history of the Thousand Islands region. Complete with beautiful beaches, working farms, and a vibrant seasonal community, Grindstone Island offers ample opportunities for any visitor.

Though originally a Canadian settlement, Grindstone has been recognized as an American island since 1823. By the early 20th century, the Island was home to a booming community, complete with two schoolhouses, a still-functioning Methodist Church and Community Center, and a Creamery and Cheese Factory. Grindstone’s lumber and granite quarries were central to this early economy.

Today, around ten residents remain on the Island year-round. During the summer months, the number of residents climbs to nearly 700. Beyond the private residences, the Thousand Islands Land Trust currently owns and carefully preserves about 40% of the Island, paying particular attention to the Island’s delicate and unique ecosystem.

As visitors to the Winery, we hope that you will join us in not only honoring Grindstone’s incredible legacy but also in engaging with the glory of Island life today.
